Barolo, 2014
A herculean effort. The Altares produced only 4000 bottles as opposed to the usual 12,000. A ravishing Barolo with a Pinot-like beauty and precision yet with the body and strength that give away its Piedmontese origins. Resplendent red fruit bursts from the glass, notes of alpine strawberry and red cherry, intense but lithe and charming, so persistent and mouth-watering. A blend of fruit from Serralunga, Castiglione and la Morra. Aged for 24 months in 20 percent new oak.
critic reviews
Altare's 2014 Barolo is a soft, supple wine with the midweight structure of the year very much on display. Fruity, forward and open, it will drink well with minimal cellaring. The Altare Barolo has a track record of aging well. Even so, the 2014 is decidedly light, even within the context of the year.
