critic reviews

92/100Monica Larner,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Made with Nebbiolo grapes from Elio Altare's Arborina vineyard, the 2013 Langhe Giarborina is a savory red wine with rich layers of dark fruit, tobacco, tilled earth, licorice and fragrant blackberry fruit. This is a muscular expression of Nebbiolo that delivers good structure and acidity. The firmness of the mouthfeel is this wine's best quality.

The 2013 Langhe Giarborina (formerly Arborina) is floral and nicely lifted. Medium in body and lithe, the 2013 is built on freshness above all else. This is an especially lithe, silky Barolo, with lovely aromatic depth and plenty of nuance. With time in the glass, the wine puts on quite a bit of weight. I imagine the 2013 will offer a long and wide drinking window of pure pleasure. If opened young, the 2013 demands a good bit of aeration, as it is a touch reduced. The 2013 spent 18 months in 100% new French oak, all of which it has handled with impeccable grace.
