La Villa, Langhe, 2019
A wine that transparently mirrors its origins, with red fruit and cocoa notes of Arborina Nebbiolo mixed with the lush salty freshness of Larigi. Slick, deep and with some tang to the finish. A blend of 60% Nebbiolo from Arborina and 40% Barbera from Larigi, aged in 100% new oak barriques for 18 months. On average 3000 bottles are produced each year.
critic reviews
A blend of 60% Barbera (from the Larigi vineyard) and 40% Nebbiolo (from Arborina), the Elio Altare 2019 Langhe Rosso La Villa reveals bright fruit over a medium body. The wine shows plum, cherry, roasted almond and grilled rosemary. It ages in new barrique for 18 months. This wine is elegantly streamlined on the finish. There was a tiny production of just 900 bottles.
The 2019 La Villa, Altare's blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera, is wonderfully vibrant. Readers should plan on cellaring it for at least a few years, as the tannins are a bit nervy. The combination of Barbera fruit and Nebbiolo structure is quite appealing. Black cherry, mocha, licorice and espresso build into the fleshy finish.
