Barolo, 2016

justerini & brooks tasting note

Fine-boned aromatics, a little closed initially but clearly with plenty of depth and a lovely roundness, whilst a rich energy courses through its middle. Dark cherry and blackberry fruit, good intensity of flavour and a great sheen of mid-palate fruitiness supporting a cloak of ripe, velvety tannins. Silky but with structure and high invigorating acid. Creamy fruit fused with minerals. A round and very complete Barolo. Most of this comes from the younger vines (25 years old!) of the very fine Brea vineyard as well as the leftover wine from the estate's top crus that won't fit into their own separate barrels, much of which is Rocche. Quite some regular Barolo!

critic reviews

90+/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2016 Barolo is medium in body, classically austere and full of character. Sweet red cherry, mint, white pepper, cedar, tobacco and dried flowers emerge, but only with great reluctance. I would not be in any rush to open bottles soon. Readers who enjoy traditionally made Barolos will adore the 2016. Patience is key here.
