Barbaresco, Rombone, 2018
Clear as a whistle, clean crisp ripe strawberry characteristics. As ripe and alluring as this, the red berry and floral rose petal notes lift the on the palate. This shimmers with a jewel-like brightness adding vibrancy and intensity to the sun kissed fruit. Ripe, perfumed, salt-flecked and with nicely integrated tannins providing edge and definition. An absolute gem. A Barbaresco vineyard from the Treiso commune that sits 290 metres above sea level. The south south-west aspect ensures great sun exposure whilst the high limestone content in the soils yield structured but balanced and well-defined wines. Aged for 18 months in large old wooden cask.

The 2018 Figli Luigi Oddero Barbaresco Rambone has a distinctive red fruit nose, but with savory, iron, iodine and medicinal notes. It has a fantastic silkiness of texture, neither heavy nor over-rich and this is balanced by a vibrant layer of bright, salty, savory tannins and super-clean fruit. It is elegant and refined. Wait two to three years and drink for 20 years.
The Figli Luigi Oddero 2018 Barbaresco Rombone opens to tart cherry fruit and plum, with some sweet earthy tones or tobacco at the back. The wine feels rich and well concentrated to the palate, with a touch of extra ripeness that comes as a surprise for a vintage that was relatively cool and cloudy overall. If you love the bright primary flavors of Nebbiolo, this wine delivers them in troves. This 9,000-bottle release will hit the market in October 2021.
