Barolo, Bric del Fiasc
Paolo Scavino

Barolo, Bric del Fiasc, 2013

justerini & brooks tasting note

Austere and brooding initially, but with a little air and encouragement fresh floral and wild strawberry notes appear above the surlier backdrop of dark fruit, spice and scorched earth notes. The wine is dense-packed and monumental, but there are many layers of complex fruits and minerals lying beneath. Most impressive but this will need time. Bric dël Fiasc is Piedmontese dialect for Bricco Fiasco, the top of the Fiasco vineyard. Situated at 280 metres above sea level in Castiglione Falleto, this is one of the great Crus of the region that makes powerful but classy, age worthy wines. It was the first single vineyard bottling Scavino released starting from the 1978 vintage.

critic reviews

95/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2013 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is one of the most complete and satisfying wines in the range. Exquisitely layered and precise, the Bric del Fiasc is also unusually nuanced in this vintage. Iron, smoke, rose petal, mint and crushed flowers give the wine its distinctive aromatic signatures. The driving Bric del Fiasc tannins are present, and yet the 2013 is laid back and understated - as all the 2013s Barolos are - with less of its customary explosiveness and brutish power. I can't wait to see how it ages.
