Barolo, Cannubi, 2005
In the hands of Enrico Scavino, the outstanding vineyard of the Barolo commune, Cannubi, produces the perfect compromise between power and elegance. This is archetypal, silky, sweet, polished yet with great underlying drive and power, so true and unwavering. Initially reticent but aeration gradually reveals some wonderful characteristics. To get the best out of this it will need several years’ bottle age. Flowery hedgerow, berry, cherry blossom, violet and cherry stone fruit flavours predominate.
critic reviews
Expansive, silky and layered, the 2005 Cannubi is pure sensuality. Dark cherry, plum, mint, pine and sweet spices flesh out as this super-inviting Barolo continues to open up in the glass. The 2005 doesn't' quite have the multi-dimensional personality of the very best vintages, but it comes close. Best of all, with a bit of air, the 2005 drinks well now.
