Barbaresco, San Stunet

Barbaresco, San Stunet, 2014

justerini & brooks tasting note

Sharp precise red fruit aromas, more race and less lace than the Albesani, this is all about fresh cool and vital flavours. Rocky, gripping alpine strawberry, raspberry and red cherry fruit. Clear, intense and with lots of bite and crunch. A fantastic wine to liven the senses. Stunning. From the commune of Treiso a south east facing vineyard at 400m altitude, one of the highest parts of Barbaresco. The soils are mostly limestone with some blue Marl. The site is late ripening, usually picked ten days after the others. Typically the wine is livelier and more linear in structure than Busso’s other Barbarescos. Aged for two years in 25hl slavonian oak casks

The 2014 Barbaresco San Stunet is one of the most beautiful and nuanced wines I have tasted from Busso in some time. Layered and gracious, with lovely translucent energy and aromatic lift, the 2014 has so much to say. Sweet red cherry, tobacco and orange peel add shades of dimension. The 2014 is a bit classically austere at this stage. I would give it at least another year or two in bottle to soften. This is a terrific expression of Barbaresco from Treiso.
