Barbaresco, San Stunet, 2015
A great vineyard that really seems to reach another level of completeness in warmer vintages. Aromatic and open, defining but really ripe tannins add a very fine-boned, tight kit structure to the fruit. Lovely ripe, creamy forest berries and wild strawberry flavours. Svelte and seductive but with a nice pique of freshness. Beautiful and stylish but not haughty. An utterly beguiling San Stunet. From the commune of Treiso a south east facing vineyard at 400m altitude, one of the highest parts of Barbaresco. The soils are mostly limestone with some blue Marl. The site is late ripening, usually picked ten days after the others. Typically the wine is livelier and more linear in structure than Busso’s other Barbarescos. Aged for two years in 25hl slavonian oak casks.
critic reviews
The 2015 Barbaresco San Stunet, from a site in Treiso, is powerful and dense, almost too much so, as it ultimately comes across as heavy. There is plenty of depth and intensity, but the flavors are forward and the tannins are not as polished as they are in some of the other wines in the range. Smoke, tobacco, worn-in leather, licorice and dried fruits add to an impression of a wine that is evolving quickly.
