    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
    Roagna, Barbaresco, Paje, 2012

One of the current superstars of the Langhe, Luca’s 2012 Paje is the product of 25 to 50 year old vines from a vineyard with one of the highest proportions of limestone in the Barbaresco region. This gives the wine a core of zippy red fruit and white rock finishing on sweet tannins. A very complete, seductive Barbaresco that spends five years in the cellar before release.

Roagna's 2012 Barbaresco Pajé opens with striking aromatics. Spice, leather, sweet tobacco, hard candy and dried cherry notes lift from the glass, but it is the purity and sweetness of the fruit that really stands out. The decision to shorten the amount of time the wines spent in barrel is evident in the wine's freshness. Polished tannins give the 2012 tons of near and medium term appeal. What a gorgeous wine this is.
