    The 2014 Vintage Port is certainly the most backward of Noval's recent vintages, notes of black fruit, orange rind, sage, flecks of powdered dark chocolate and white pepper. The palate is ripe and viscous on the entry, tightly-knit and probably not as precise as subsequent vintages, just missing a bit of flair towards the finish. I wonder whether this is in an awkward phase? Very linear at the moment, but the precision is there. Keep this in the cellar. Incidentally, this was Noval's smallest declaration of 700 cases.     Quinta Do Noval

    Quinta do Noval is a legendary, single estate located in the heart of the Douro valley. With 145HA under vine the estate benefits from a plethora of differing altitudes, expositions, and varietal compositions from which they select the finest grapes to go into the flagship Vintage Port. This usually equates to just 10% of the total production. All the grapes are still foot trodden in historic stone lagares and at the heart of the property lies the famous Nacional plot, an ungrafted 1.60 hectare vineyard which yields tiny bunches of highly concentrated grapes, that in turn have historically produced some of the greatest Ports of all.
