Warre's, Vintage Port, 2024

Warre’s is characterised by its high-altitude vineyards and a signature fresh, floral character. A large percentage of the blend is from Quinta da Cavadinha which rises to 450m above sea level, providing one of the coolest aspects in the region. 20% of it is planted with extremely old vines. Another property in the blend, Quinta das Netas, is even higher, and Quinta do Retira only yields 300g per vine due to the incredible age of its vines, making for a very fine Port indeed. 38% of the blend is Touriga Franca so its pronounced floral fragrance offsets a lot of the power and concentration those old vines instil. 2024 is a refined and ethereal effort - wildflowers with mineral tones, garrigue and scrub are joined by rose, violet and a light pine scent. Heady but high toned with sour cherry, damson, plum and prune. The purity of fruit is impressively detailed and sculptured and the sweetness seems layered and pixelated. Elegant yet voluptuous and giving with a luxuriant and long finish.
