Cinsault, 2024
Sleeker and darker fruited than the preceding vintages, 2024 is the first year in which Donovan employed some submerged cap fermentation on the WO Darling component, which accounts for 75% of the blend – a site that Donovan shares with Duncan Savage. The remaining 25% comes from the Swartland. Forest fruited with red plums this is a gorgeous, fresh but fruity Cinsault.
critic reviews
The 2024 Cinsault comes from two vineyards in Darling and Swartland. Whole bunch fermented using submerged cap for the first time and aged in 3,000-litre foudre, it has a vibrant bouquet with red berry fruit, Five Spice and iodine. Perhaps it just needs a touch more precision. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, beautifully balanced with a silver thread of acidity, judiciously spiced with a dash of cracked black pepper and clove on the finish. This finishes on a real high.
