Aalto
Pagos Seleccionados, Ribera del Duero, 2012
justerini & brooks tasting note
Altogether darker than the straight Aalto, quantities here are about 30% down on 2011. Plenty of bright, dark cherry and red currant fruit on the nose. The palate is loaded with cocoa nib, graphite, and blueberry. Very refined in style yet with satisfyingly grippy tannins and just a touch of bitter choc on the finish. A lithe, focussed PS.

Bright purple. Sexy, expressive aromas of cassis, candied licorice, Indian spices and toasty oak, along with notes of incense and mocha. Sweet, pliant and expansive on the palate, offering intense black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors that become livelier and spicier with air. Dense but vibrant and light on its feet, finishing with excellent clarity and mineral-driven thrust.
