Château Doisy Védrines, 2ème Cru Classé, Barsac, 2023

justerini & brooks tasting note

Invariably the more delicate and detail driven of the two Doisys this is as fresh and as lifted as ever, with floral citrus blossom on the nose and a mid-weight, refined palate that offers up scintillating detail and haunting persistence. A blend of 85% Semillon, 12% Sauvignon and 3% Muscadelle.

93-95/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown,The Wine Independent

A blend of 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2023 Doisy-Vedrines has 150 g/l of residual sugar and a pH of 3.7. It has a pale lemon-straw color and slowly emerges from the glass with evocative scents of lemon meringue pie, fresh pineapples, and sea spray, leading to hints of cinnamon and jasmine tea. The palate is concentrated, densely laden with tropical fruit and spicy accents, framed by just enough freshness, finishing long and chalky. Very pretty!

Silky texture, intense and opulent, this has the lift and sculpted acidities of the vintage in Barsac, with concentrated apricot, nectarine and pineapple. 9hl/ha yield.

The 2023 Doisy-Védrines doesn't quite deliver the complexity of the Doisy-Daëne on the nose, though it opens nicely with aeration to reveal lemon sherbet, saffron and light tangerine aromas. It is not as immediate as other Sauternes in this vintage, but it does exude elegance. The palate is well balanced with a very pure, tensile opening. This seems to be a less "fat" Doisy-Védrines compared to other vintages, possessing a fine bead of acidity. It’s lightly spiced with a tang of marmalade and quince toward the finish. This is a noble Barsac in the making.
