Volnay, Clos des Angles, 1er Cru, 2017

A clear step up in stature and quality from the Volnay village. Aromatic open sweet fruits, silky and sensual. There is a bit of depth and weight here too to go with the gorgeous, textured, delicate but persistent and sweetly-scented strawberry and red cherry fruit, alluring. A charmer. When the chance to purchase vines in this fabulous Clos came up in 2006, Guillaume d’Angerville jumped at the chance, making it the Domaine’s first vineyard expansion since 1906. The first vintage under its own label was 2008. The vineyard’s soil is deep but there is a gentle slope to ensure good drainage.
