Oestricher Doosberg, Alte Reben, Trocken, 2018

justerini & brooks tasting note

The Alte Reben hails from the steepest part of Doosberg, which is surprisingly steep, where the loess and loam soils are shot through with silvery grey quartz. It is fermented and aged in Dopplestuck. The 2018 has the silkiest of textures but is not without freshness, indeed it seems to freshen in the glass. There’s a sweet caress to this, elegance with a certain glamour; a star of the silver screen.

critic reviews

90/100David Schildknecht,Vinous

Zesty lime and strongly pit-inflected white peach are accompanied on the nose by high-toned suggestions of fruit distillate. The glossy, full palate displays pronounced piquancy, including a satisfyingly deep nuttiness. The finish is impressively tenacious, though lacking in the clarity, animation, refreshment and buoyancy that rendered this year’s village-level Oestrich and Hallgarten wines especially impressive (not to mention charming).
