Barbaresco, Rabaja Bas, 2022
2022 has a lovely, layered ripeness to it, offering red cherry and pulpy, juicy tactile finish. Contrary to the name, Rabaja Bas is not the lower part of Rabaja but a continuation of the ridge. The Verduno parcel is at the same elevation as Rabaja itself, on the west facing end as opposed to the full south of Rabaja – it benefits from cooler mornings and direct winds coming off the Tanaro. The Castello’s plot was planted in 1942 during the war. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in cask for 20 months.
