Château Doisy Védrines, 2ème Cru Classé, Barsac, 2011
One of the stars of this Sauternes vintage, offering that wonderful 2011 balance of intensity and lightness. Beautiful aromas of lemon flower with fresh, juicy flavours of sicilian lemon, acacia, limestone and flint. Powerful and lingering withiout being heavy. A beauty. 150g/l of residual sugar. A blend of 90% Sauvignon and 10 % Semillon.
critic reviews
A blend of 89% Semillon and 11% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2011 Doisy-Vedrines has 149 g/L of residual sugar. It is medium straw-gold in color and after a swirl or two, compelling notes of peach cobbler, pineapple paste, and persimmon butter spring from the nose, with underlying hints of crème caramel and nutmeg. The palate is expansive and decadently rich, with a racy backbone to support it and a long, spicy finish.
The 2011 Doisy-Védrines had a lovely bouquet with peach skin, Mirabelle and orange blossom aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, powerful with a lot of botrytis, though here, I am seeking more acidity and tension on the finish. Very fine, but might it pall after a few sips? Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.
