    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
    Château Hosanna, Pomerol, 2001

Though a touch muted on the nose, this wine possesses a fine density of ripe fruits on the palate, exhibiting black cassis and bramble. Well structured and quite brooding. There is plenty in this wine. Will need cellaring in the best tradition of Christain Moeuix wines.

The 2001 Hosanna was the third vintage of this cuvée, and I was rather tepid in my reaction upon release. Now, after 20 years (has it really been that long?), I am still not convinced. It has a herbaceous nose, indicating that maybe some fruit did not reach phenolic ripeness. It certainly pales against some of the marvels coming from Hosanna in recent years. The palate is medium-bodied with aggressive tannins, very ferrous, and a little lean on the midpalate. A dryness on the finish suggests that bottles ought to be consumed in the near future.

    Château Hosanna

Hosanna is usually the most exuberant and debauched of the J P Moueix wines. There is a hedonistic array of aromas with blackcurrant jam, notes of cherry liqueur chocolates, kirsch, eucalyptus and flowers. The fruit profile is intensely blue and black, with notes of huckleberry and black plum, sweet earth and exotic spice. It is lavish, sumptuous wine, which although impressive and rich has a lightness of touch and freshness to the fruit. It is framed by an impressive tannic structure and finishes with notes of Valrhona chocolate and pure loganberry fruit. 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc.
