Château Hosanna, Pomerol, 2006
Down 20% in volume from last year as the many very old vines on this property yielded a super-rich but limited crop, reducing the average yield to only 34hl/ha. Intense, dark ruby red; rich red berries on the nose, intermixed with raspberry, liquorice and vanilla. The palate is marked by considerable structure, a powerful meaty character with a concentrated, earthy complexity; the pure cherry and raspberry fruit is intense and rich, while tannins are very smooth, yet firm. Good balance and length on the finish.
critic reviews
Bright, full ruby-red. Compelling aromas of red cherry and raspberry liqueur, licorice, minerals, spices, mocha and coffee. Wonderfully opulent and broad, with full but not excessive ripeness and a classically dry impression for such a plush wine. A wonderfully sexy, quintessential Pomerol that finishes with terrific breadth, sweet tannins and an almost magically light touch. If this is not as good as the 2005, it's just a step behind.
