Château Malescot St Exupery, 3ème Cru Classé, Margaux, 2016
The 2015 was one of the best value buys from Margaux. The 2016 is another wonderful effort packed with cool black and red berries with persistent and serious tannins laced with cranberry and cassis. This is another large-scale Malescot with excellent aging potential.
critic reviews
The 2016 Malescot Saint-Exupéry has a refined bouquet with blackberry and bilberry fruit, well defined with neatly integrated oak, though there is a little brettanomyces that emerges in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, not powerful but fresh and classic in style, with a touch of sour cherry and tobacco on the finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.
The 2016 Malescot St Exupery is deep garnet in color. It storms out with broody notions of tar, crushed rocks, and tapenade, opening out to a core of crème de cassis, dried Provencal herbs, and pencil lead, with a touch of dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound with muscular black fruit and firm, grainy tannins, finishing with great length and tension.
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Malescot St. Exupery sings of cassis, fragrant earth, tobacco and lilacs with a compelling waft of mocha. Medium to full-bodied and strutting loads of expressive fruit layers at this youthful stage, it's framed by ripe, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing with great length and depth.
