    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Produced from 47% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, the second wine of Pichon Comtesse tastes nothing like a second wine. This screams quality and luxury. More open and expressive than the grand vin, it unfurls with a glorious, brooding, bouquet, dark berries, black tea and violets. Very compact and precise, with a serious fruit core and a glorious Pichon texture, so fine and silky and detailed, yet powerful and concentrated, coating the mouth with velvety, luxurious fruit and aristocratic tannins laced with sumptuous berries and minerals. We felt this could be the most impressive Reserve to date. Outstanding!

A blend of 47% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Pichon Comtesse Reserve is deep garnet-purple in color. It soars with expressive notes of cassis, wild blueberries, and chocolate-covered cherries with exotic hints of cardamom, cumin seed, and star anise. The medium-bodied palate features fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness to support the elegant fruit layers, finishing spicy.

The 2020 Réserve de Pichon Comtesse retains that generous licorice-tinged nose with blackberry and boysenberry fruit, an underlying mineralité emerging with time. The palate has a bit of muscle on the entry, beautifully structured and fresh, quite edgy and energetic, building discretely with just a little oak to be assimilated towards the finish. Be a bit more patient with this Deuxième Vin - it'll be worth the wait.
