Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf, St Emilion Grand Cru, 2013

justerini & brooks tasting note

Francois explained that he was initially very cautious with his extractions. He started off being gentle so as to not extract anything aggressive, however, he pressed harder and harder tasting each time. To his surprise, the fruit kept on giving and there were no ‘rude tannins'. As a result, the wine has terrific colour and is one of the densest and most profound wines of the vintage. The bouquet is a smorgasbord of fine herbs, beautiful perfumed fruit, decadent griotte liqueur, graphite, truffle and damp earth. The palate is sumptuous as ever with velvety crème de mûre fruit. Utterly hedonistic; yet another spectacular Tertre Roteboeuf which belies the challenges of the vintage.

critic reviews

88/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2013 Tertre-Rôteboeuf is another vintage that I have not tasted for a while. It has a light, slightly tertiary bouquet with mushroom and attic-like scents and vestiges of fruit in the background. This is not complex but it shows no dilution. The palate is balanced with delicate tannins and tobacco notes infusing the lightweight red fruit tones that attenuate toward the finish. Drink this soon. Tasted at Château Valandraud.

83/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown,The Wine Independent

The Tertre Roteboeuf 2013 has a medium garnet color, with a touch of brick. It delivers scents of kirsch, dried cranberries, and dusty soil, with an undercurrent of dried Provence herbs and leather. The medium-bodied palate offers herb-laced dried berries, with a chewy texture and a short, rather unpleasant finish.
