Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf, St Emilion Grand Cru, 2024
Mature, wild, ripe, succulent aromas burst forth from the Tertre Roteboeuf; they’re impossible not to enjoy, with a similarly controlled hedonism to Roc, though in a more multi-dimensional way. Ripe red fruits with a sepia toned exoticism caress the palate, with oak spice over melting tannins, and a sense of freshness and tension through to the finish. Very good indeed.
critic reviews
Deep garnet-purple colored. Needs a little swirling and coaxing to bring out notes of red currant jelly, kirsch, and fresh blackberries, leading to hints of sassafras, underbrush, and cinnamon stick. The medium-bodied palate is dense with ripe black and red berry flavors, supported by fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and opulent. Nice!
The 2024 Tertre-Rôteboeuf came directly from the barrel à la Burgundy, as usual. It has a vivacious bouquet with pure black plum, cassis scents, crushed violets and light persimmon. The palate has a satin texture, with the oak a little more prominent since it came from new barriques, hints of cola and white pepper and a dab of dark chocolate towards the finish. This is a delightful '24 from François Mitjavile, perhaps without the dimension of a very top "T-R," though it deserves three or four years in the bottle.
Deep ruby red, this has profound ink, damson and liqourice notes on the aromatics and opening, good grip and tension, only slowly opening to show its gourmet side, with cassis and raspberry pureee. Smoked sandalwood, incense and cherry pit add further layers, but this needs time to build. Harvesting first five days of October.
The 2024 Le Tertre Roteboeuf offers up aromas of ripe berries mingled with notions of cigar wrapper, espresso roast, orange zest, smoked meats and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, it's unusually rich and broad for the vintage, framed by oak tannins that assert themselves on the somewhat carnal finish.
