Puligny Montrachet, Les Referts, 1er Cru, 2018
This has the most beautiful fruit. A vineyard that was obviously on song in 2018. Animated and lavish yet with such brilliance and clarity of flavour. Mandarin, quince and Mirabelle fruit with a fine bead of acidity running through it. Forthcoming and seductive. Pure pleasure. From prime-situated vines next door to those of Sauzet, where the large clay content of the soils yields generous round wines of seductive fruit. Fermentation and élévage take place in 350 litre barrels, with no bâtonnage, for 12 months before six months in stainless steel.
critic reviews
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a slight mintiness on the nose that I find a little incongruous in this wine. This appears to ebb with aeration and reveal more petrichor scents. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, touches of orange pith and wild peach, fine depth and precision towards the finish. This is an absolutely delicious Puligny. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.
