Puligny Montrachet, Les Referts, 1er Cru, 2021
Complex well defined aromas on the nose. Real precision. A lovely blend of rich fruit and smoky crushed minerals. This has some flesh but also great momentum, salty notes of citrus pith, citrus zest and yellow plum. There’s a certain body here but its kinetic and fizzing with energy and tension. From prime-situated vines next door to those of Sauzet, where the large clay content of the soils yields generous round wines of beautiful fruit. Fermentation and élevage take place in 350 litre barrels, with no bâtonnage, for 12 months before six months in stainless steel.
critic reviews
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru clearly has some reduction on the nose although, unlike some others, this seems proportionate and not fixed. It does not detract from the freshness or delineation. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry. Again, predictably, there is some reduction but it feels complete and full with impressive weight and depth on the finish. Tuck this away for a couple of years - there is promise here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
