Gevrey Chambertin, La Petite Chapelle, 1er Cru, 2017
justerini & brooks tasting note
A Gevrey with attitude. Open-knit and engaging but lively with it, there is serious structure and force here bolstering the brambly, hedgerow flavours. There is crunch, too, in the form of crisp red cherry and plum fruit which is bright and lifting. Vigorous, powerful Gevrey. Situated just under Chapelle Chambertin, where the soils are typically “Gevrey” and clay dominated

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru does not quite sing on the nose and lacks the definition and joie-de-vivre of the Clos de Fonteny. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, some torrefactory notes and blood-orange-infused red fruit on the finish. This is just lacking a bit of harmony and grace.
