Pommard, Clos des Epenots, 1er Cru, 2020

justerini & brooks tasting note

There is something extremely noble, refined and attractive about this. Silky damson, sloe and cherry blossom fruit flow across the palate, interspersed with cooling mineral flecks. Elongated, pretty but sophisticated fruit supported by a fine, bolstering structure. One of the great Pommard climats producing wines of great finesse and longevity. The vines were planted between 1948 and 1978 and the soils here are well-draining.

The 2020 Pommard Clos des Epenots 1er Cru is very well-defined and focused on the nose, well-integrated new oak that is neatly sutured with the vivacious black cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, crisp and taut, tensile from start to finish with a dab of black pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent.
