Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Domaine de Montille, Meursault, Les Perrières, 1er Cru, 2018

Structured, almost tannic, powerfully mineral and salty. Loads of extract but without any excess fat. Intense, high definition flavours cut through the palate with touches of roasted hazelnut adding some richness. Crisp and stony. From the higher part of the Perrières vineyard, so particularly mineral even for Perrières. Aged in 20% new oak barriques, so there is minimal oak influence on the flavour of this wine.

The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru It has an intense bouquet – like other Meursaults from de Montille, carrying a little reduction, but with more crushed stone, mineralité and white flower scents than the Les Porusots. The palate is well balanced with impressive depth, tension and vigor, offering citrus lemon and orange pith mixed with hazelnut toward the sustained finish. Excellent.

Domaine de Montille

Domaine de Montille

Etienne is one of Burgundy's great purists, his long-lived wines may need time but they are some of the most honest and terroir-driven wines in Burgundy. The wines are fermented using all or partial whole bunch vinification depending on the vintage, élévage is long and slow in their cold cellars and percentages of new oak are low, rarely more than 50% even for Malconsorts. From some of the most vivid, intense Beaune's there are to perfumed, stylish Volnays and silky Vosnes Romanee, Etienne makes a borad range of some of Burgundy's most polished wines. The Domaine's policy on white wines is to pick as early as possible, as soon as the fruit has just approached ripeness, resulting in tense, fine wines with alcohols rarely more than 13%
