Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos des Porrets, 1er Cru
Domaine Henri Gouges

Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos des Porrets, 1er Cru, 2018

justerini & brooks tasting note

One of the most successful wines in the cellar this year. A gripping, fresh structure. Classic without being too austere. The crisp tannins are well-covered with appealingly vibrant fruit notes of hedgerow berry, bilberry and plum with a savoury note of undergrowth. This is assured, has dimension to it and is crackling with energy. A 3.7 hectares Monopole of Domaine Gouges; long-lived, always one of the more classic muscular-style Nuits of the region.

critic reviews

89/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a generous mulberry, incense and lavender tinged bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is sweet and a bit "fluffy" on the entry, quite rich as expected, just missing a bit of backbone and complexity on the finish. Not a long-term bet but offers early-drinking pleasure.

From a climat that was largely spared by the hail that impacted this commune, Gouges's 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint Georges offers up a generous, youthfully fruit-driven bouquet of plums, raspberries and cassis mingled with subtle hints of cola and creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, pure and velvety, it's layered and fleshy, with powdery tannins and an ample core of fruit. This is a rather ripe, sumptuous, even rather heady example of the frequently rather stern Clos des Porrets Saint Georges, and in that respect, it's very typical of the vintage.
