Explosive, gripping sweet red fruits - notes of griotte, kirsch and a fresh touch of raspberry - underpinned by a sapid, savoury touch. More opulent and immediate than the brooding Vaucrains with redder fruits. A fruit bomb of flavour hits you instantly, but what is so impressive is that this develops and refines in the glass - gregarious, seductive but with an expansive and complex side. Out of the top drawer. The great vineyard of Nuits, situated mid-slope and with a great balance of clay and limestone soils - many people believe it should be elevated to Grand Cru status.

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a very well-defined, complex bouquet that puts the preceding Les Vaucrains in its place. Here there is clearly greater focus and terroir expression, subtle sous-bois scents permeating the black and red fruit. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, seamlessly integrated new oak and a silky-smooth finish exerting judicious grip. Very classy.
