Gevrey Chambertin, Lavaux St Jacques, 1er Cru, 2020
Immediately, there is a step up in terms of depth and intensity, as the Lavaux proffers plenty of rich fruit and sweet tannins, combined with a naturally wild and herbal edge. A really lovely, sensual, crowd-pleasing style. An excellent 1er Cru, one of the appellation’s higher, cooler vineyards next to Clos-St.-Jacques. Fully destemmed and aged in 40% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a tightly-wound nose at first, plenty of undergrowth scents here, almost peaty, well-defined, hints of bay leaf emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This is quite a strict, quite a "cool" Lavaut that clamps down on the finish. This has just been bottled, so I would afford this 4-6 years in bottle.
