Latricières Chambertin, Grand Cru, 2019
So different from the Chapelle Chambertin, more open and less compact and also a redder fruit profile - offering warming squashed red berry and kirsch notes with a background note of bramble. Heady but long, slick, lithe and elegant, lifted by shimmers of mineral and rock on the finish. Fermented with 30% whole bunches. Latricières is a stonier and windier terroir than the other Grands Crus of Gevrey, producing firm, minerally wines.
critic reviews
The 2019 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, which is undergoing renovation in the vineyard, was quite reduced on the nose compared to the Chapelle-Chambertin, rendering the aromatics difficult to read. The palate is well balanced with a slightly lactic opening, sweet dark chocolate notes and espresso slightly occluding the fruit and the terroir expression. I will defer judgment for now.
