Drouhin Laroze, Latricières Chambertin, Grand Cru, 2018

Less compact and a little more elongated in shape than the Chapelle, more like the Lavaut in style but headier. Red berries, minerals and salts mixed with a touch of spice. This has punch and energy with a suggestion of warmer liqueur fruit notes on the finish. Nicely weighted. Latricières is a stonier and windier terroir than the other Grands Crus of Gevrey, producing firm, minerally wines.

The 2021 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, crushed stone and light orange blossom scents. Very elegant. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, taut and fresh, light bodied yet with a little more edginess and energy than the Chapelle-Chambertin. Give it 3-5 years in bottle.
