Aloxe Corton, 2020
A striking villages with a sense of completeness to it that’s highly impressive. Silky, luminous dark fruit on the nose, ripe yet precise bramble and hedgerow flavours on the attack, across the entire palate a sense of juicy freshness and gorgeously supple tannins. Bold yet fine-tuned too, finishing with a lick of limestone minerality. Shows real promise and a level of quality above its village status. This comes from a parcel of vines planted on chalk and limestone soils that produce atypically round, alluring Aloxe-Cortons.
critic reviews
The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Village felt a little muted on the nose, reluctantly opening with blackberry, briary and light briny aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. Strict and focused but with commendable delineation on the sapid finish. It lacks a little flair but it should give a decade’s worth of drinking pleasure.
