Pommard, Clos Blanc, 1er Cru, 2020
Proof that Pommard can have style, as well as substance. Taut with crisp fruit and a chalky minerality, yet with the silkiest of hedgerow berry fruit gliding across a bed of savoury limestone notes. Clear-cut, super focused and intense. Not a hair out of place, beautifully toned and driven. Brilliant. This comes from the northern sliver of Clos Blanc, adjacent to Grands Epenots. Half the plot is on white calcaire de Nantou soils, the other half on redder soils, similar to Grands Epenots.
critic reviews
The 2020 Pommard Clos Blanc 1er Cru has a tightly-wound nose with dark berry fruit, a touch of blueberry, hints of iodine and violet emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, good weight, a little chewiness towards the finish, though the Volnay Ronceret has a little more precision and charm.
