Pommard, Clos Blanc, 1er Cru, 2021
Wonderful expressive aromatics with a touch of blood orange. A very fine, high-toned style of Pommard from the white soils of Clos Blanc. Flowers, pale red fruits and fine stones. Wonderful lift and the Pommard character only discernible through the steely architecture of the tannins. Lovely plus; drive and lift and great purity. Just a barrel and a half produced in 2021. This comes from the northern sliver of Clos Blanc, adjacent to Grands Epenots. Half the plot is on white calcaire de Nantou soils, the other half on redder soils, similar to Grands Epenots.
critic reviews
The 2021 Pommard Clos Blanc 1er Cru has an uncomplicated but fresh and delineated bouquet that perhaps just needs more Pommard DNA to come through. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, fresh acidity, gentle grip and admirable precision on the finish. Here, I am more taken by the palate than the aromatics, but they could meliorate by the time of bottling.
