Pommard, Clos Blanc, 1er Cru, 2018
Génot-Boulanger’s Pommard Clos Blanc 2018 hails from the northern sliver of Clos Blanc, adjacent to Grands Epenots. Half the plot is on white calcaire de Nantou soils, the other half on redder soils, similar to Grands Epenots. It’s a parcel that produces Pommards with both elegance and depth, as this 2018 aptly displays. Brilliant wild hedgerow fruits tinged with notes of rosehip and hawthorn, there’s a complex sultry depth at its core built around very fine tannins. The finish is taut, clean and accented with a crisp stoniness. A very suave Pommard.
critic reviews
The 2018 Pommard Clos Blanc 1er Cru is fragrant and quite floral on the nose with brambly red fruit, wilted rose petals and peony. This gains complexity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, taut and fresh. A judicious spiciness enlivens the composed and quite persistent finish. There is a delicacy and nuance here that is commendable. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
