Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Caillerets, 1er Cru, 2021
Caillerets is, as you'd expect, much more intensely wrapped up in itself and needs a bit of time in the glass to open. Focused, long and crystalline, though quite discreet with it still. Salty and pure, with lovely sense of flowing length that implies good things to come. Salty and mineral more than opulent. With a little flesh gained with bottle time this should be lovely plus. Long and fine. Situated at the southern end of the "en Caillerets" sector, Caroline's vines are planted on a steep slope of shallow pebbly soils with a fine south east exposure. The most precise, mineral and intense of Caroline Lestime's Chassagnes from her oldest vines (over 60 years old).
critic reviews
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a delicate, perfumed bouquet with a mixture of red apple, yellow plum and light walnut scents, becoming more floral as it opens in the glass. The palate is rounded on the entry with brioche and almond notes. The oak (25% new) is well integrated, with a touch of stem ginger that comes through on the finish, a tingle on the aftertaste. Not a long-term proposition but well crafted.
