Robert Chevillon
Nuits St Georges, Les Cailles, 1er Cru, 2009
justerini & brooks tasting note
From some of the oldest vines on the estate averaging over 60 years old, situated on the Vosne side of the appellation, this combines exquisite finesse and a gloriously svelte texture with that Nuits and old vines power, intense flavours of damson, crushed cherries, crunchy plums and sweet, ripe hedgerow berry set in a grounding and defining tannic framework.

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Cailles bursts from the glass with an exciting mélange of smoky dark fruit, new leather, tar and licorice. It is another implosive, young wine that will require considerable patience. The energy and verve both bode well for the future. Exotic spices and dark fruit emerge even more fully as the wine fleshes out on the finish.
