Nuits St Georges, Les Cailles, 1er Cru, 2020
A subdued oaky, smoky note on the nose, opening up on palate with crushed, creamy forest berry fruit encased in a slick tannic framework. Notes of coffee bean and mineral adding further dimension to the finish. Rich but svelte, layered and complex. An exemplary, stony vineyard situated mid slope next to Les St Georges, Chevillon's is a fine parcel of 80 year old vines, the oldest vines on the estate.
critic reviews
The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has a Grenache-like bouquet, with hints of dried blood and leather coming through with aeration. It lacks a bit of Pinoté. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins. There's a layer of new oak here, and it smothers the terroir expression on the finish that, like others in this flight, shows a bit of warmth at the back of the throat. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Deep and seamless, the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles mingles aromas of cherry and berry fruit with hints of rose petals, orange rind, sweet spices and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, suave and velvety, with terrific concentration, fine tannins and lively acids, it's the most elegant wine in the range.
