St Joseph, Les Grisières, 2024
justerini & brooks tasting note
A more substantially styled St Joseph that has proven to age extremely well, Les Grisières comes from two parcels: Les Rivoires in Chavanay, and Chanson (which, incidentally can be designated either Condrieu or St Joseph depending on the colour), both of which are on the typical fine granitic soils of the region. Aged in 7–8% new oak (usually two barrels) but in a year like 2024 they are careful not to mark the wine. Dark Syrah fruits with a creamier richness and subtle spice, the wine shows more structure from the barrel and will be bottled in July 2026. Where it tends to see some whole cluster, in 2024 it was fully destemmed to keep the purity of fruit in a year where ripening was not as even.
