Côte Rôtie, Les Grandes Places, 2010
A fabulous, single vineyard in the Verenay commune planted with 75-year-old “Serrine” vines, which is the traditional Syrah of Ampuis. The wine is aged for 24 months in 30% new oak and is bottled without filtration. Powerful, ripe but not over the top, fresh and very intense but with a degree of restraint, this is an immense Côte-Rôtie built with firm but sleek tannic lines, sumptuous and enveloping flavours of sweet spice and cracked pepper, mulberry, red cherry, bramble and Alpine strawberry, this is bright concentrated and superbly balanced.
critic reviews
Bright ruby. Impressively complex, expressive nose offers a seductive bouquet of cherry-cola, cassis, violet, smoky bacon and minerals. Spicy black and blue fruit flavors show noteworthy depth and energy, with a floral pastille quality emerging in the glass. Stains the palate and displays a suave blend of richness and energy, finishing with superb lift, cut and sweet persistence.
