Châteauneuf du Pape, 2019
Aromatic sweet red fruits abound on the nose, on the palate the effortless, silky red fruit is joined by notes of aniseed and liquorice spice. Warming, sensual and elegant. Heady but with the most beautiful, haunting, floral finish. A product of a sunny vintage for sure, but as successful and graceful a rendition as you could imagine. From a blend of grapes coming from vines in the Grand Pierre and Pointu sectors just south of Rayas where plantations are 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and the rest a mixture of other permitted co-planted varieties. Whole bunch, spontaneous yeast-fermented and aged in old oak tonneaux for two Springs.
critic reviews
The 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and other permitted varieties. The 2019 unfurls aromas of strawberry jam, raspberry liqueur and cooked black cherry. The rustic tannins amplify the lack of elegance.
