St Joseph, 1907, 2020

Clearly the best 1907 Bastien has produced to date. This has it all – depth without heaviness, structure without rusticity. Suave, noble dark and red fruit, a hint of plum, bullace and cherry. Real nerve and spine brings definition and structure to the fine, gently floral fruit. Fluid and composed with a tapering, tightening, energetic finish of minerals and spice. Stunning. A massale selection of 75 year old vines in the high slopes of St Jean de Muzols behind the cellar, that are aged separately. Often blended into the L’Instinct, in certain vintages Bastien deems this outstanding enough to be bottled separately. Circa 1,100 bottles will be produced from one demi muid and one barriques.
