Côte Rôtie, Ampodium, 2016
The most enticing and ethereal Ampodium we have ever tasted, suave and fluid but with nerve too. Gorgeous fruit characteristics of rose, rose hip, red berry and pepper. So silky and pliable yet with excellent freshness. Superb. A blend of top quality vineyards across the estate including Tupin and Viaillere, all fermented with whole bunches and aged in large demi-muid casks, a maximum of 10% of which are new.
critic reviews
Deep ruby. Expressive aromas of ripe blackberry, boysenberry, licorice and olive paste show very good clarity and pick up a smoky nuance as the wine stretches out. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering concentrated black and blue fruit flavors complemented by a building floral pastille note. Shows noticeable weight on the broad, gently tannic finish, which echoes the dark berry and licorice notes.
