Côte Rôtie, Ampodium, 2023
Dark plummy fruits with dried herbs and cherry stones, impressive tannins from the barrel finishing on a bright citrus, almost blood orange note, bringing with it a tang to the finish. As ever a minimum of 90% whole bunch fermentation was used to keep the wine as fresh as possible. A blend of 15 lieu dit from top-quality vineyards across the estate including Tupin and Viaillere, all fermented with whole bunches and aged in large demi-muid casks, a maximum of 10% of which are new.
critic reviews
A blend of all the parcels owned by Rostaing and vinified with some 90% whole clusters, the 2023 Côte-Rôtie Ampodium is lifted and expressive, revealing aromas of grapefruit, dark berries, spice and violet, subtly framed by oak. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and structured, it is built around a firm tannic spine that carries through to a long, mineral finish. Still very young, it will require time in bottle to fully unfold and integrate.
The 2023 Côte-Rôtie Ampodium breathes out alluring orange rind, crushed violets, fresh-cut ripe blackberry, red plum and fragments of black cherry. Stemmy tones add more complexity. Round and concentrated, the 2023 hits the mid-bodied palate with immaculate fresh clarity, easing the last impressions with juicy dark cherries and finely expressed spicy tones.
