Lieser Niederberg Helden, Riesling, Kabinett, 2021
A Grosse Lage that Thomas Haag more or less put on the map singlehandedly, the Helden is synonymous with complex, ripe but slate driven Rieslings resplendent with yellow fruits, red apples and intense, stimulating levels of extract and acidity. The 2021 is a more pared-back expression than we’re used to, introducing subtly sweet red apple, apricot and peachy fruits with a firm, fresh finish.
critic reviews
Bottled in May this year with 8% stated alcohol, the 2021 Niederberg Helden Kabinett is clear, bright and flinty on the intense nose. Crystalline, lush and dense on the palate, this is a textured Kabinett with sharp but imbedded acidity. This is a very young but promising Riesling with roughly 40 grams per liter of residual sugar that give texture and roundness yet not really a sweet taste due to the pungent mineral acidity. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.
