Lieser Niederberg Helden, Riesling, Kabinett, 2022
A Grosse Lage that Thomas Haag more or less put on the map single-handedly, the Helden is synonymous with complex, ripe but slate-driven Rieslings resplendent with yellow fruits, red apples and intense, stimulating levels of extract and acidity. The 2022 plays with golden fruits, some papaya and grapefruit. The supple, fleshy, sweet style and pliant finish suggests that this will drink well in youth.

The 2022 Riesling Lieserer Niederberg Helden Kabinett opens with a tropical overtone of mango, setting a ripe and aromatic tone. The sweet palate introduces Mirabelle jelly and rounded juiciness on a light, pristine body, channeling an inner coolness. There’s lovely stony depth, a light touch and salty purity. The finish lends a grapefruit zestiness to the full yet light fruit. 51g/L residual sugar and around 7g/L TA. (Off-dry)
